About this artwork
With this work, I wanted to capture a sense of emotional tension and the sweet bitterness of a farewell. The use of acrylic, oil, and tar creates a vibrant contrast that expresses both energy and melancholy. The nuanced and intense urban atmosphere transports the viewer on a profound emotional journey, bringing warmth and reflection to every inhabited space.
Gianfranco D'Andrea, a self-taught artist, completed his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome and has exhibited internationally. He employs techniques ranging from Trans-Avant-Garde to Action Painting, and an Abstract Expressionism characterized by his use of bitumen. His simple and understandable works express an intense sense of nostalgia and instinct. THE ARTIST GIANFRANCO D'ANDREA WAS BORN IN ROME IN 1956. AT THE AGE OF 12 HE SHOWED A STRONG INTEREST IN THE ART OF PAINTING AND WAS CHOSEN BY HIS SCHOOL DRAWING TEACHER, PARTICIPATING IN THE DRAWING OF A PAINTING REPRESENTING THE "CASTING OF PORTA PIA 1870" (USING THE TEMPERA TECHNIQUE). HE WAS AWARDED FOR BEST WORK AT THE PIO XII SCHOOL IN ROME.
