About this artwork
A walk in the forest near my studio. The moment is perfect; nature, this autumn, seems as beautiful as ever. And then that noise, rising and growing louder: chainsaws, bulldozers, clear-cutting just a few hundred meters away. I have my camera with me. How can I capture an image of this nature, which I wanted to believe was pristine, that would convey the extreme fragility of life in the face of human voracity? I choose a relatively slow shutter speed…
and press the shutter, giving the camera a quick, sharp movement.
The image obtained is not that of the primitive nature that a few moments earlier presented itself to my gaze. It is that of a secondary nature, a second nature with a troubled and uncertain future.
