About this artwork
"Subtraction does not impoverish; it generates."
In this artwork from my Static Dynamism series, I investigate movement and stillness through pure geometric structure. Moving beyond traditional painting, I use unweaving (detessitura)—the meticulous removal of threads from the jute fabric. This process transforms the raw jute into a permeable, three-dimensional filter on a wooden frame.
Using only unwoven jute and acrylic paint, my goal is to trap… velocity within the stillness of the object. The open structure of the fabric interacts directly with the wall behind it, generating a subtle visual dynamism that shifts with the observer's movement while remaining anchored in absolute quiet.
Since the 1970s, my research has shown that form is not a decorative choice, but the manifestation of a structural equilibrium. This artwork does not illustrate movement; it generates it through its raw physical configuration, blending minimalist subtraction with the physics of space.
« Art is a way to express oneself in joy and freedom, as well as the love for oneself and for others. »
Giustino Caposciutti is an award-winning painter, textile artist, and printmaker based in Italy whose works have been exhibited nationally, as well as in Belgium, Switzerland, Australia, and France. He describes his diverse compositions as representing messages of hope. Caposciutti's artistic practice is marked by discovery through the materials he employs. For him, after having "given birth" to a piece, it assumes the property of change, just as in the natural environment.
