About this artwork
This painting was conceived as a reflection of emotional unpredictability. The brushwork is largely unstructured and energetic, with movement in a number of directions. The composition is dense, but the eye is guided round the painting for a balanced effect. I think of it as one of my emotional landscapes although it is a work that contains no specific reference to any known subject. I wanted to convey the idea of eternal motion mostly through… colour and brushstrokes. The colours blend into each other at times with subtle transitions, at others with contrasts, as our emotions do. The brushwork is varied, sometimes energetic and sometimes soft. It is a work for contemplation of the continuous unpredictable nature of thought processes. But your interpretation is as good as mine, of course.
Born and based in Malta, I have always been guided in my artistic work by the Mediterranean atmosphere of sea and light. Thoughout my professional life, as an international judge with the UN and the EU, painting remained my constant discipline — strengthened through sustained study with master painters in France and Italy.
My work moves between the semi-abstract and the abstract, Vertical elements often suggest human aspiration; horizontal passages evoke calm and continuity. This interplay restores the balance we seek daily: between thought and emotion. In a culture that rewards speed art offers something rare — the invitation to slow down, to look, and to feel without urgency.
My influences include Turner’s atmosphere, Rothko’s emotional depth,, and the Japanese understanding of stillness and beauty through restraint.
Each painting is built slowly, allowing light to settle into the work. The result is not merely visual, but experiential — a space for quiet reflection.
