About this artwork
I painted this 20 x 20 inch oil piece to capture that quiet, reflective feeling of walking alone through a city in the rain. The figure moves past the glow of the Paradise Café, where life carries on inside—people talking, working, sharing moments—while outside feels slower and more introspective.
I was drawn to the contrast between the cool, rain-soaked street and the warm light spilling from the café windows, and how reflections in the pavement… can almost tell their own story. There’s a sense of nostalgia here, like a fleeting moment in time—something cinematic, yet familiar.
Through the brushwork and colour, I wanted to create an atmosphere that feels both calm and alive, where the viewer can step into the scene and imagine their own story unfolding.
« I like to make colorful happy paintings. Life can be a grey hue, so a colorful landscape is refreshing in contrast. »
