Gitano refers to the Andalusian Roma (Gypsy) people of southern Spain, who are central to the creation and development of flamenco. In this context, it signifies the "soul," pure artistic capacity, and emotional depth (often duende) of the music, song, and dance. They are considered key creators of the fusion that formed flamenco, combining rhythms of Indian origin with Arab melodies. This always involves swirling dance and swirling music.
