About this artwork
This is my daughter. I was showing her how to place her fingers on the strings — you can see her struggling to get her fingers of her right hand, right, completely focused, determined.
I took a photo in that moment and later painted it. Not because it was a perfect moment, but because it was a real one. A father, a daughter, a guitar, and the very beginning of something.
As a musician and composer, music has always been part of my life. In this painting… I wanted it to become part of hers too.
Helias Fylactos is a self-taught painter and printmaker with a background in music; he works primarily in oils and ink on canvas and wood, as well as in relief and intaglio printmaking. His technique balances between realism and expression, building layered textures and employing a loose, instinctive approach to the human figure, animals, and Mediterranean landscapes. Through his artworks, he seeks to capture the honesty and spirit of life, inviting viewers to pause and feel something deeply authentic.
