Edna O'Brien was an Irish writer who made a name for herself through numerous novels, short stories, and screenplays. The portrait depicts the author as a young woman. Her gaze is directed past the viewer into the distance, radiating a quiet strength and vulnerability. The background's very soft colors, which contrast with the vibrant colors of the subject, are particularly noteworthy.

Henrieke Ribbe, born in Hanover in 1979, studied at the HfbK in Hamburg, where she received her diploma in 2005 under Werner Büttner. She now lives and works in Berlin. Ribbe primarily paints portraits, sometimes choosing motifs that are vibrant and colorful, conveying glamour and celebrity. She also paints very personal portraits, including a series of portraits of the staff of the Berlin club "Kater Holzig." In 2019, she created a series of large-format portraits of female artists with their children. These works were featured in the exhibition "The Caucasian Chalk Circle" at the Westwerk gallery in Hamburg. Her work is often biographical, extremely subtle, and meticulously observed. Her pieces have been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions.
