About this artwork
Throughout De Hofmann-Leitmeritz's work, surreal forms and figures, fantastical color palettes, and archaic messages dominate. A specialty is dynamic movement emanating from the center of the image, like an explosion or a rotating energy source. "Plutonium," "Dance on the Volcano," and "Volcano Island" are clear examples. Guardian angels appear in the paintings, abstractly and surrealistically exaggerated, taking on unexpected forms and moving almost… spider-like on elongated legs. Erotic curves of attraction shimmer through vaguely or dominate clearly, without lending them any realism. Demons and mythical creatures haunt a dream that spreads like mist; everything interacts and is interconnected, perception repeatedly layered by fragmentary images and fragments.
Dietmar E. Hofmann - Leitmeritz - that's what DEHL stands for.
born June 6, 1944 in Leitmeritz/CR
Died on February 24, 2020 in Kaiserslautern/Germany
Dietmar E. Hofmann worked as a painter, artist and gallery owner.
His works incorporate elements of Tachism, are reminiscent of Paul Klee and Joan Miró, and are characterized by flowing lines, bizarre forms, fantastical creatures, and richly colored backgrounds. He combines abstract and representational painting to create surreal, enigmatic visual worlds. His paintings evoke feelings ranging from childlike fantasy to subtle menace, placing the viewer in a mood that is both magical and contemplative.
