The title "Wichteldämmerung" refers - somewhat ironically - to the "Götterdämmerung", which roughly means the darkening of the world of the gods. The most famous Twilight of the Gods is of course the fourth part of Richard Wagner's "Ring", in which the dwarf-like Alberich plays a rather negative role.
In my gnome game it goes haywire: a gnome is lying on the floor, the dagger still in his back, while a pink tom has just grabbed one gnome by the… bed and is holding several others in his claws. In contrast to Nordic mythology, where the dwarves usually work underground in a clever, magical and helpful manner, they have long since conquered the earthly Central European front garden, where they play a rather inglorious decorative role. But does that mean they are already doomed - as a sculpted and painted skull seems to suggest?
Heribert Heere uses collage, paintings (oil, acrylic, watercolor), digital media, and photography; his artistic development was honed at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich and shaped by art historical studies. With sophisticated stylistic pluralism, he combines old and new, representational and abstract, and the trivial with high culture in his works, allowing collage, painting, and montage to flow seamlessly into one another. His works create a poetic tension and invite viewers to reflect on the constant metamorphosis of our culture and to experience the interplay of meanings on an emotional level.
