About this artwork
I felt a sudden urge to paint the grapes I had at home, and finished the painting in about an hour.
Afterward, I turned off the lights in my studio—and was surprised.
Seen in the darkness, the grapes looked strikingly real.
I was overjoyed by the miracle of my often-elusive hyperfocus intersecting with reality.
I believe art is not for the brain, but for the harmony of one’s breath and life. Picasso said, “Art washes from the soul the dust of everyday life.” If artists are “restorers of the soul,” then the true creator is you, breathing in sync. Art is simply a catalyst.
Society often crushes our creative will. Yet, if we cherished our breath, the world would transform and wars would vanish; Robbing breath and wounding the soul ultimately harms us all. I seek to create art that helps viewers rediscover the pure realization of living “here and now.”
