About this artwork
The Anthropocene Threshold of Nature
For a long time, nature was imagined as a process independent from human history. Today, however, it has become increasingly clear that human activity has grown into a planetary-scale force. Science refers to this new epoch as the Anthropocene—a condition in which humanity is no longer only part of nature but also one of its shaping systems.
In scientific terms, a threshold denotes a critical point: the moment… when a system loses stability and shifts into a new state. Today, the biosphere appears to be operating close to several such limits. Climate, ecosystems, and biodiversity all respond sensitively to human influence.
This painting evokes that fragile moment. It does not depict the romantic loss of nature, but rather the boundary at which a complex system begins to signal change. Here, art asks a question closely related to that of science: can we recognize the warning before transformation becomes irreversible?
