“Front Page: Today’s Catch” is a contemporary still life from my Edible Headlines series, where everyday food moments are elevated into visual news stories. Painted in acrylics over real newspaper, this work presents fresh fish served on a plate — simple, honest, and intentionally unembellished.
The fish is rendered with careful realism, emphasizing natural textures, subtle color transitions, and the quiet beauty of a familiar meal. Beneath the painted… surface, fragments of printed text remain visible, creating a layered dialogue between image and information. The newspaper acts as both material and concept, referencing time, daily routines, and the fleeting nature of attention — what is “front page” today may be forgotten tomorrow.
By isolating this modest subject and placing it at the center of the composition, the painting invites viewers to pause and reconsider the value of everyday rituals, food traditions, and small moments of presence.
