This work embodies the moment of union attained through transformation. Having passed the trials — through the thorns of hawthorn, wearing down the iron shoes, and reaching the blue grass — the lovers find one another and enter a state of unity.
Love appears here as a force that alters the very nature of reality. In its presence, resistance dissolves: the thorns of holly no longer wound, the water becomes not a boundary but a point of connection,… and the ancient oak — guardian of the threshold and the sacred covenant between worlds — receives and protects their union.
The Holly King is an archetype of the threshold guardian, a presence capable of passing through darkness while remaining open to love. In this union, the path of separation concludes and a shared existence begins — a new form of being, born through love.
