About this artwork
For some time now, I've been fascinated by the idea of the European artist's journey. In past centuries, painters wandered along the major rivers, often creating the earliest depictions of places, landscapes, architecture, and history through their drawings and lithographs. I took up this approach in 2011 and began the project "New Journeys into the Saale Valley." Near Jena, I was particularly impressed by the enormous, two-part Saale Valley Bridge,…
built in 1938 and 2006. I made film recordings and still photographs, which I later transformed into silkscreen prints over paintings. I combined this image with a panel depicting a view into the majestic treetops, the kind you get when you gaze carefree at the sky in the middle of a forest.

Jörg Hamann is a German visual artist with 30 years of experience. He received his professional training at Carl Zeiss Jena. He soon realized that he was not only fascinated by optics, but that visual experience would be the starting point for his artistic work. He studied painting at the renowned Academy of Fine Arts (HfBK) in Dresden. After receiving his diploma, he was appointed a master student there. His work has been exhibited internationally and has been recognized with grants and several awards.
In his current series, after years of experimentation in the studio, he has succeeded in transforming photography into painting through screen printing. The predominantly multi-panel panoramas combine landscape and nature motifs with human figures or architecture, creating a complex and compelling interplay. The exquisite color palette of the selected panels evokes both the aesthetics of historical photographs and the subtly vibrant colors of modern Pop Art.
