About this artwork
The inspiration came to me while observing a tree's shadow, its two-dimensional form with its many patches of light. I simplified and concentrated this structure even further and used it as an "overarching tree," a kind of higher soul of the trees. This forms a wonderful contrast to the black and white trees in the foreground. It's a feeling I always have in the forest; there's a universal plan—the tree—that will still be there after we're gone.…
