About this artwork
I live on an island and have a strong, traditional environmental awareness (the kind Homer inspired, not the kind dictated by people who've never seen an olive tree or an octopus in the water). I've coined a phrase to apply to my work: "Treat trash as if it were jewels and jewels as if they were trash." That's why I use "object trouvé"—trash floating in the water or animal remains after they've been eaten (bones)—combined with jewels.
Jaime Roig de Diego is a multidisciplinary artist with a background in advertising and a profound influence from his childhood and life experiences. He employs fusion and cultural blending techniques, working with recycled materials and playing with religious imagery, Spanish surrealism, and everyday pop elements. His works invite critical reflection on the world, conveying authenticity and a transformative energy, awakening hope or alarm depending on the piece.
