About this artwork
this beach resembles much of the Côte d'Armor where sand and granite rocks meet in harmony against the movement of the sea and the tide.
Above all, the painting is about water, sea and sky united in wet sand, children walking through raindrops as the tide recedes in the distance. The colors are soft but full, with abundant paint applied with both knife and brush, bringing the material itself to life.
The painting is framed with an American box… frame.
« Intimate, with an eye on the privacy of everyday life enhanced through color and silence. A calm and restful life. »
James MacKeown is an award-winning figurative artist living in France whose paintings are featured annually in solo exhibitions nationally, as well as in England, Ireland, and Switzerland. Through his art, he endeavors to convey the sublime in the intimacy of everyday and private life. The apparent improvisation in his works is in reality the result of an extreme and refined elaboration; the palette of colors meticulously constructed with soft gradients combined with a gentle touch. As such, MacKeown identifies as a "painter of intimacy". While he occasionally depicts surrealist subjects, they also follow his particular vision and philosophy of daily life.
