the small pool of water in the sand is the result of several studies of children playing in the sand at low tide.
the artist in search of harmony between the individual child lost in his personal exploration of the beach and his curious magic of rock pools and seaweed, and the vast expanses of sea and sand that stretch out in a sort void filled with light.

James MacKeown is an award-winning figurative artist living in France whose paintings are featured annually in solo exhibitions nationally, as well as in England, Ireland, and Switzerland. Through his art, he endeavors to convey the sublime in the intimacy of everyday and private life. The apparent improvisation in his works is in reality the result of an extreme and refined elaboration; the palette of colors meticulously constructed with soft gradients combined with a gentle touch. As such, MacKeown identifies as a "painter of intimacy". While he occasionally depicts surrealist subjects, they also follow his particular vision and philosophy of daily life.
