About this artwork
Late summer, the heavy trees with dark green leaves about to change, curl up and dry up. The sun is still warm, the light shines warmly but long shadows fall as the afternoon turns to evening.
The apples drag the branches down,
And the glowing berries on the bushes, the wet morning dew.
this subject was first painted ten years ago on a smaller canvas from a sketch made in front of raspberry bushes growing in the hedges.
« Intimate, with an eye on the privacy of everyday life enhanced through color and silence. A calm and restful life. »
James MacKeown is an award-winning figurative artist living in France whose paintings are featured annually in solo exhibitions nationally, as well as in England, Ireland, and Switzerland. Through his art, he endeavors to convey the sublime in the intimacy of everyday and private life. The apparent improvisation in his works is in reality the result of an extreme and refined elaboration; the palette of colors meticulously constructed with soft gradients combined with a gentle touch. As such, MacKeown identifies as a "painter of intimacy". While he occasionally depicts surrealist subjects, they also follow his particular vision and philosophy of daily life.
