like today, the drizzle falling from a half-overcast sky, the light softened by the reflections of the sun which stain the wet sands of the ebbing tide.
Puddles of water left by undulating waves, like paint splashes, projected onto the canvas, reflecting the sky mixed with light and shadow. A humid yet beautiful day.
In this work, I captured the melancholy yet majestic essence of a gray day by the sea. Using oils to render the diffuse… luminosity through the thick clouds, I sought to evoke a deep sense of calm and reflection. My impressionistic brushstrokes enhance the living texture of the water and sky, inviting contemplation. It is a painting that whispers the inaudible stories of wind and water, perfect for enriching a living space with its peaceful and contemplative atmosphere.

James MacKeown is an award-winning figurative artist living in France whose paintings are featured annually in solo exhibitions nationally, as well as in England, Ireland, and Switzerland. Through his art, he endeavors to convey the sublime in the intimacy of everyday and private life. The apparent improvisation in his works is in reality the result of an extreme and refined elaboration; the palette of colors meticulously constructed with soft gradients combined with a gentle touch. As such, MacKeown identifies as a "painter of intimacy". While he occasionally depicts surrealist subjects, they also follow his particular vision and philosophy of daily life.
