About this artwork
This piece captures the raw spirit and fleeting essence of a horse, blending minimalism with semi-abstract forms. Using pastels, I focused on expressive strokes and soft hues to evoke motion and emotion. The simplicity channels a graceful energy, inviting your space to feel both dynamic and serene—a gentle reminder of strength in vulnerability.
Janette Lockett is a self-taught painter working primarily with pastels applied to art board, inspired by her lifelong passion for horses and her experiences living in Andalusia, Spain. She employs abstract and minimalist techniques, using sponges to create ethereal, movement-filled compositions often devoid of background, focusing mainly on equestrian themes and occasionally nudes. Her art radiates a sense of spiritual freedom and invites viewers to experience peace and emotional transcendence, even if just momentarily.
