About this artwork
This painting by Janni Nyby started in a slightly special way. Janni Nyby saw a photo of Lisbon taken from the air in the evening light, and was fascinated by the perspective and the colors. She began to paint a rough sketch with some of the dominant elements from the photo. However, since it is nature and landscapes that fill and draw when Janni Nyby expresses herself at the canvas, the painting moved into an abstraction over nature, and landed… in significantly lighter colors than the darker evening light. It is inspiration from many places in the world that comes into play when the emergent painting process is underway.
In the painting, Janni Nyby has used different types of brushes, cloths, water, fingers, sponges and most of all her favorite tool, painter's trowels in many different versions.
« I paint colorful nature and landscape abstractions, which I invite the viewer to explore. I get inspiration from nature's incredible colors, shapes and elements. »
Janni Nyby is a Danish contemporary artist whose practice explores the dynamic intersection between abstraction and subtle figuration. Her works are defined by an expressive, color‑driven visual language, where intuitive layers of movement and energy create a powerful sense of presence. She deliberately works without titles to offer viewers complete interpretive freedom, allowing each piece to function as an open, sensory space rather than a predetermined narrative.
Based in Aalborg, she runs Galleri Janni Nyby, a professional exhibition space and creative hub reflecting her artistic universe. She exhibits regularly in major international art cities such as Paris, Florence, Venice, Barcelona, Berlin, New York, Los Angeles, and Miami, where her distinctive visual voice meets a global audience. Nyby’s practice is driven by an ongoing investigation into the force of color, the poetry of materiality, and the emotional resonance that emerges between artwork and viewer.
