“Suddenly I feel the need to leave my apartment and get some fresh air so I quickly dress and I’m out the door on my way up the street to Borders, the bookstore about four blocks away from where I live. Coldplay’s 'Don’t Panic' plays through the earphones of a Sony MiniDisc player as I walk. After about half a block, another revelation is revealed: every part of my life that I’ve been “living” up to this point was nothing but a dream—a nightmare… mostly—but a dream, nevertheless. And now, for a reason unknown to me, I have awakened inside that dream. What I thought was real has now become surreal, and my purpose for being here at this particular time on this particular planet seems so, oh, I dunno, clear.”
