About this artwork
In this work, I deliberately multiplied the layers and intersections to create a feeling of profusion, almost of overflowing. The flat areas of color serve as unstable foundations, quickly invaded by a dense gestural writing, made of projections, scratches and sharp lines.
I worked in a constant tension between structure and chaos, allowing the colors to interact freely without seeking to dominate them. The black lines structure the space while… fragmenting it, while the bright bursts of light punctuate the surface like sudden breaths.
This work reflects my desire to push the gesture to its limits, to explore a raw energy where each intervention modifies the overall balance without ever canceling it out.
𝗝𝗲𝗮𝗻-𝗝𝗮𝗰𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗲, a polymorphic and passionate self-taught artist, has been developing his artistic language for over forty years in total freedom, outside of academic frameworks. After figurative beginnings influenced by Fauvism and Expressionism, his discovery of Chinese ink and Asian avant-garde calligraphy acted as a trigger that steered him towards a gestural, instinctive and emotional abstraction. His work always originates from an inner state: nothing is programmed, everything arises from movement and the sincerity of the gesture. In his works, strength and restraint intersect, matter flows freely, and energy seems to unfold. He seeks less to convey a message than to let the painting touch directly, without words, through the intensity of its presence.
