About this artwork
In this work, I sought to capture the stark contrast between raw strength and human vulnerability. Through the figure of a sumo wrestler, immense and powerful, standing on a pedestal above a modern city in miniature, I weave a dialogue between tradition and modernity, isolation and connection. It is a reflection on our own position in the world, oscillating between grandeur and solitude. This image will bring a surreal and revealing dimension to… any space where it is displayed, sparking conversation and introspection.

Jean-Marie Gitard (aka Mr. Strange), painter and digital artist, draws inspiration from the surrealism of Dali, Magritte, and Hooper. Using photomanipulation and digital collage techniques, with a rare use of oil paint, he creates enigmatic works with touches of absurdity. His works blend poetry and sharp criticism, arousing surprise, curiosity, and reflection by straddling the real world and the imaginary.
