In this work, I have merged the classical with the modern (?) to provoke a reflection on identity and perception. The contrast between the traditional Islamic clothing and the famous background, borrowed from a Renaissance masterpiece, creates a visual dialogue between the past and the present that disturbs. The intense and direct gaze of the enigmatic figure seeks to establish a personal connection, inviting contemplation on how identity is perceived… across different cultures and eras.

Jean-Marie Gitard (aka Mr. Strange), painter and digital artist, draws inspiration from the surrealism of Dali, Magritte, and Hooper. Using photomanipulation and digital collage techniques, with a rare use of oil paint, he creates enigmatic works with touches of absurdity. His works blend poetry and sharp criticism, arousing surprise, curiosity, and reflection by straddling the real world and the imaginary.
