About this artwork
Urban Purity is the city reduced to its skeleton—its grid, its layers, its rhythm. Far from the detail that characterizes my other works, this series seeks the essential: the structure before the facade, the plan before the street. It also marks a turning point: it was after this series that I became more detached from reality, to paint no longer what I saw, but what I would have liked to see.

I am Jean-Paul Roland, a contemporary Parisian painter. My work explores the contrasts between built and natural environments, capturing scenes from Normandy, where my studio is located, to landscapes discovered during my travels.
