"The Five Fishes" is a painting that depicts five fish arranged on a blue table, ready to be prepared for the meal. Around them, knives and various utensils are arranged, suggesting the imminent stage of their cutting. But what surprises upon observation is the expression of the fish: far from displaying a gloomy or fatalistic image, they are all incredibly joyful. Their smiling faces and their postures denote an unsuspected, almost playful vitality.…
This contradiction between the context, quite banal and everyday, and the exuberant mood of the fish creates a striking contrast, inviting reflection on the way in which we approach scenes of ordinary life. Jean-Pierre Borderie is an artist based in France whose paintings have been exhibited nationally, as well as in Belgium. His works are inspired by rides, the scenes of city life, as well outdoor interiors, that enlarge spaces and give them breathing room. In addition, he is entranced by southern landscpaes filled with sunshine. His vibrant compositions are created using acrylics on canvas.
