About this artwork
In the 1970s, the Gare Montparnasse was under construction. On the south-facing facade of the building, cranes, cladding, and scaffolding mingled with the glass windows, their colors changing with the time of day and the seasons. It was an endless source of color palettes.
Jean-Pierre Villeneuve, initially trained in fine arts before turning to medicine, always painted and sculpted with passion, primarily in Paris and later in Provence. He worked in oil on canvas with both palette knife and brush, and also practiced black and white drawing, painting on paper, and creating sculptures from welded sheet metal, developing a surreal and evolving approach. His work explored urban light, bodies, still lifes, and dreamlike architectures. Through his creations, he conveyed a profound admiration for art and a fascination with form and light, evoking both wonder and reflection.
