About this artwork
I had barely been born when Magritte died. Yet, when I started painting, even though I knew nothing about his work, having no formal art education at the time, just the wild dream of one day becoming a painter, people would quickly tell me, upon seeing my paintings, "They remind me of Magritte!" A little tired of hearing this, I started to do some research. Who was this Magritte everyone was talking about? When I discovered his work, I was a bit… upset because he had stolen quite a few of my ideas. ^^
The portrait in the center is a re-portrait of Georgette, his wife. Behind the green apple, it is indeed Magritte posing.
Completely self-taught and a professional since 2005, Jean-Pierre Walter's work always responds to the same ambition: to create classic surrealist works, while offering a contemporary and personal interpretation, inviting reflection on illusion, memory, and the transformation of objects into poetic symbols.
