About this artwork
This body of work began shortly after the murders at Sandy Hook Elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut, USA. My process begins by collecting items from antique stores, junkyards and online. I then build the assemblages in my studio and finally photograph them. Murder by guns in the United States is a daily occurrence here. School children, church attendees, shoppers, teachers, and innocent by-standers die every day because of lax regulations…
by the government. In 1791, the second amendment to our constitution was written and put into law. Society here has changed greatly in the last 234 years, but this definition of what it means to be American remains staunchly defended by gun lobby groups, republicans and gun owners.
