About this artwork
This sculpture is made of iron plate. The work consists of shapes cut from sheet iron with a blowtorch and then welded to form the figures. The sculpture represents two girls and two boys relaxing reclining on a sofa listening to the guitar played by one of the boys.
In the past I spent many hours drawing the human figure at the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid. Members have the privilege of drawing from models in different poses for various periods… of time. I enjoyed the 5 minute poses that compel you to capture the moment. From these drawings, I made compositions of various figures in different poses. Hence my composition series.
At the time I started working on iron plate sculptures, I was doing a series of oil paintings and prints of these compositions. It occurred to me that I could also make two-dimensional sculptures of these figures.
