About this artwork

"Botanica" is a painting dedicated to all the glory in the details of nature, taking the minute and fragile and transforming them into grandness. This painting is an abstract interpretation of growing life and artistry in nature, of flowers, branches, leaves, and their apparent tenuousness.

"Botanica" was painting in several layers of mixed media, allowing for a certain hide and seek feeling when viewing the painting. Oil pastels were used to draw… some of the more detailed parts of the painting, creating a poetry of drawn lines and oil paint washes of color.

It is a painting that requires a moment of communion and stillness, observing and exploration. It is like a story unfolding. One delicate page at a time.

Painting this painting was an extended meditation.

There is a poetry in the natural world, a lyrical beauty and power. My work is a meditation on my own connection to the majesty of the natural world. I am a recent cancer survivor, and my latest body of work reflects the light I sought at the end of the tunnel, the light I capture from the natural world and transmute into my paintings. My work is an expression of my own will to thrive and live, even through the most intense suffering.
My paintings have been exhibited in Europe and the USA, and are part of private collections in 18 countries.
I live for half the year in the mountains of northern Italy, and for the other half in the Colorado Rockies.
My experience defeating breast cancer is the driving force behind my body of work this year. The power of nature is the power of life.
