About this artwork
“Floating” is an expressive abstract painting that lives between stillness and motion. Turquoise and ocean blues wash across the canvas like breath over water, while bright pinks and warm coral flashes rise like distant light. Thin veils, sculpted palette-knife layers, and scraped-back passages drift over one another, revealing earlier forms just beneath the surface. The image feels weightless yet present, calm, but quietly vibrating, inviting the… eye to slow down, wander, and return.
Created by artist Jennifer Vahlbruch, the work grows from an intuitive, experimental process. Built in many layers, it welcomes accidents, erased gestures, and sudden color shifts as part of the journey. What begins as one atmosphere transforms into another, mirroring how moods change and memories blur. “Floating” keeps its meaning gently open, allowing viewers to project their own place, pause, or passage into its luminous field.
“If my work makes someone pause, ask a question, feel a genuine emotion, or see something ordinary with new eyes - then it has truly fulfilled its purpose.”
Jennifer Vahlbruch is a self-taught contemporary painter and photographer whose multidisciplinary background merges intuitive creativity with conceptual depth. Emigrating from Germany to the United States transformed her perspective, inspiring her to uncover the beauty in overlooked details, weathered surfaces, and even the “imperfect.” Her abstract paintings, created with bold, experimental techniques and often using palette knives and unconventional tools, build rich layers of texture, color, and movement that allow organic forms to emerge. In her photography, she finds subtle poetry in urban fragments and quiet, unnoticed moments. Guided by curiosity and a rebellious spirit, she embraces imperfection, transformation, and emotional resonance, inviting viewers to pause, reflect, and see the familiar with new eyes.
