About this artwork
Exploring creativity through a tertiary color palette presents both a challenge and a source of exhilarating fun. At its core, this endeavor demands a departure from the familiar comforts of primary and secondary hues, requiring a keen eye and a daring spirit to navigate the nuanced subtleties of these complex tones. The challenge lies in harmonizing colors that often sit at the intersections of contrasting primaries, coaxing them to coalesce into… a cohesive visual narrative. Yet, within this challenge lies an irresistible allure, a playground of endless possibilities where imagination reigns supreme. The fun emerges from the sheer delight of discovering unexpected combinations and witnessing how these tertiary colors breathe life into art, infusing it with depth and richness.
Jenny Shaw is a distinguished Los Angeles-based artist originally from Taipei, Taiwan. Over the past four decades, she has immersed herself in California's vibrant culture and diverse communities, infusing her work with positivity, cheerfulness, and playfulness evident in her colorful paintings. Jenny's artistic journey began at a young age with watercolors and traditional Chinese inks, leading her to pursue a formal education in Western art at Chaffey College. She primarily works with acrylics, watercolor, and gouache, employing various tools to create intricate layers and textures. Her process involves reducing and eliminating these layers to uncover and preserve the painting's “essence,” a technique that serves as a metaphor for memory. Jenny has developed a distinctive voice characterized by warm, bright, and blissful colors. Her abstract and colorful paintings radiate joy, aiming to uplift viewers and offer comfort and solace to those in need.
