About this artwork
Based on the latest research, in addition to knowing that all Homo sapiens come from a single couple, we also know that they were Black. When I considered visualizing our first parents, I wanted to do so not only according to current scientific knowledge, but also according to the criteria of beauty. For Adam, I used the proportions that Dürer had already applied in his Adam in the Prado Museum, even leaving Dürer's graphite drawing visible. For… Eve, I was inspired by an African model, although Dürer's proportions persist in the shape of the snake.
Both panels are mounted on separate stretchers measuring 195.5 x 82 cm each. They have been exhibited on a couple of occasions, and I have always left the panels hanging loose from the wall.
It has been exhibited in the solo exhibition "20 Years of the White Line" at the Atarazanas Museum in Valencia (from March 27 to June 29, 2025)
« I'm like an archaeologist looking for clay objects and finding gold beads from a necklace that must have belonged to a queen. »
Jesús Manuel Moreno is a Spanish artist whose works have been widely exhibited nationally, as well as in the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, the United States, Greece, and Portugal. His art translates the "void and loneliness" of the contemporary human being. Most of his figurative compositions feature white backgrounds, which symbolize the absence of relationships between people. Moreno's expressive pieces are created using oils on canvas, wood, or linen.
