About this artwork
"Stillness" explores the feeling of inner and outer stillness – a moment when time no longer flows but lies heavy in space. Dominant shades of gray and black create an atmosphere of stagnation and inner tension, crisscrossed by crack-like structures reminiscent of crumbling walls and fragile inner boundaries.
Fragments of clocks, gears, and Roman numerals appear shadowily, losing their function. Time is no longer measured, but experienced – stretched,… suspended, barely tangible. The red accents act like emotional condensations: suppressed feelings, inner turmoil, or quiet anger that continue to fester beneath the surface.
The work invites reflection on phases in which development seems to pause. "Stagnation" is not an empty void, but a state of intense inner processes – a space between past and future in which change is preparing itself, even if it is not yet visible.
Jessica Leidel, a self-taught artist, found her love for art through a passion for color and texture. She uses acrylic paints, texture pastes, and mixed media techniques to create conceptual works. Her art combines abstraction and symbolic elements and is characterized by a distinctive tactile quality, earthy tones, and symbolic imagery. Her works, often inspired by themes such as time, change, and inner transformation, evoke emotions and thoughts. She tells stories of inner strength and the connection between time and consciousness.
