About this artwork
Here, we witness the moment when tethers begin to fray. Not through violence or sudden rupture, but through the persistent tension of a spirit that has outgrown its constraints. The canvas captures that sacred discomfort, the beautiful unease of a soul unwilling to settle for what is when it glimpses what could be.
This is the portrait of commitment made flesh—not the gentle wish for change, but the total offering of one's being to the altar of transformation.… It demands everything: the courage to abandon familiar shores, the strength to push against the gravity of habit, the faith to believe that motion itself can become a form of prayer.
Jesutofunmi is a Lagos-based artist who explores what people hold onto for strength and meaning in life. He looks at how these guiding forces have changed over time and across different cultures. Using abstract art and stylized portraits, he creates work that sparks conversations about the different ways people find stability and purpose, encouraging both personal reflection and shared understanding. His recent series, "Hi," focuses on how quiet, introverted voices maintain their sense of self through creative work, even when they feel overlooked or unheard. His art has been shown at exhibitions including Athens Open Art, Coal City Art Exhibition, and October Rain Exhibition, among others.
