About this artwork
Heart of the Earth is a textured work that evokes the planet's deepest, most primordial essence. At its center, an organic, almost fossil-like form emerges, composed of curved, fragmented surfaces that seem to simultaneously merge and separate. The dark lines crisscrossing the structure recall cracks in rock or the Earth's crust, suggesting the passage of time and the transformations of matter. The warm tones of copper and gold contrast with the… brown background, recalling the colors of the earth and minerals, while the irregular texture and the marks of workmanship give the work an almost geological appearance, as if the central form had emerged from the subsoil. The whole conveys a sense of restrained energy and primordial strength, symbolically evoking the vital heart of the earth, where matter and transformation meet.
The work measures 120 × 100 × 1.5 cm and is made with stucco and acrylic on plasterboard canvas.
Joanna Bońkowska primarily uses painting as her medium of expression, enriched by an artistic education rooted in high school, despite having studied law. Her material and instinctive technique is distinguished by the use of textures, incisions, and layering that recall natural elements such as rocks and wood, evoking archaic landscapes and life cycles. Her works convey a profound sense of balance, reflection, and an authentic connection with memory and primordial nature.
