About this artwork
I live along the grand Delaware River of New England. It is a spectacular show during all the various seasons of dramatic weather. In the depths of winter, the rocks sit firmly in the sand, enduring the harsh winds and black winter nights. I love the subtle colors and patterns they create. It's like music with certain rhythms of size and shape. I study the rocks frequently on my morning walks with my dog, Bella.
Johanna Furst is an oil painter based in Lambertville, NJ, with a background spanning classical ballet, art direction, and intensive art training at the University of Michigan and The Arts Council of Princeton. She employs expressive brushstrokes, vibrant colors, and dynamic movement to create luminous works that shimmer with atmosphere and the gentle glow of sunlight, often portraying the human-nature relationship from the animals’ perspective. Her art conveys both the brilliance and shadow of humanity, inviting viewers to connect with a sense of empathy, sensitivity, and a longing for harmony with the earth.
