“An image for the divine in our time.” — Jonas Peres
Jonas Peres is a Spanish visual artist based in Madrid, Spain, trained at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), with advanced studies in Modern Art at the Museum of Modern Art, MoMA, New York, and studies in History and Divinity at Yale University. His practice reflects a sustained inquiry into how art history has represented the sacred, leading to a central pursuit: reimagining an image for the divine within contemporary visual culture. Through luminous chromatic fields and subtle horizons, Peres creates immersive atmospheres where light and depth generate presence rather than narrative. In dialogue with the spiritual gravity of Mark Rothko and the cultural immediacy of Andy Warhol, his work moves between emotional abstraction and contemporary awareness. He has exhibited during the period of the Venice Biennale and at Art Basel Miami.
