About this artwork
Made entirely of strips of hundreds of Soda cans over a steel frame, Incandescence is part of the Firestorm series which reference the wild fires that have ravaged the USA, Australia, Italy, Spain, Siberia and countless other countries in recent months. The material that the artwork is constructed with, soda cans, are a product of man's thirst for resources using vast quantities of aluminium, mined in developing countries at huge cost to the environment.…
The discarded cans are common sight wherever man has visited, thoughtlessly disposed of throughout the environment, in turn contributing to environmental damage through the accidental cause of ignition sources for fires. Thus the use of soda cans for this piece is ironic as well as a celebration of an often ignored artifact.
