About this artwork
Made of strips of hundreds of Soda cans over a steel frame, the Lantern Festival is a representation an event that takes place every year in Singapore. For this thousands of colorful lanterns are made and paraded through the streets. As it in the tropics, Singapore has significant rainfall. On a wet evening the multicolored lanterns take on a beautiful diffuse quality which is reminiscent in this artwork. The randomness of the color in this piece…
is generated by the cans themselves as their collection is an ongoing process throughout the construction of the artwork making for an unplanned yet organic evolution of the created work.
