About this artwork
Conglomerate is the third sculpture in the Pop Rocks series, formed from woven strips of aluminum soda cans to resemble the composite structure of its namesake rock—an aggregate of varied stones fused together over time. This work plays on both meanings of the word: geologically, it mirrors the rough, multi-textured appearance of conglomerate rock; culturally, it critiques the power and influence of multinational conglomerate corporations that exploit…
natural resources for profit. The bright fragments of familiar branding embedded in the surface serve as a reminder of how deeply consumerism is woven into our environment. In Conglomerate, the Pop Rocks series continues to blend material irony, personal reflection, and environmental critique.
