About this artwork

The painting depicts a so-called Chinese Room. There is some interaction with the orther chair in the room. The chairs 'team up', as it were.
By using painting technique, complementary red for the chair, admidts various shades of green the chairs play an important role. The painting achieves a dynamic atmosphere by a very loose and transparent style.

Dutch artist Jonker Mieke started her creative career as a goldsmith, but was inspired to start painting after viewing Rembrandt's portrait of Haesje van Cleyburgh. Mieke's exquisite portraits and interiors are created to give the viewer a good feeling, and this sentiment shines through her work, which is impressive yet intimate. She uses various transparent oil paints to produce her pieces, with a strong composition and complementary use of color. This creates artworks that are dynamic and yet serene.
