About this artwork
Cendres de lune was born inside a ritual I created: Le Dialogue du retour. In that installation, I wanted to make a space where we don’t “move on” from what we’ve lived, but return to it—slowly, with tenderness—until it changes shape.
After each step of the ritual, I kept what remained: dust, stains, traces, veils, the marks of contact and withdrawal. I began to treat these remnants as a language. The circle appeared naturally, like a lunar portal—an… opening that doesn’t lead outward, but inward. I worked by layering and erasing, as if memory itself were settling on the surface: blacks like eclipse, whites like ash, greys like time.
Sometimes a thin seam of gold breaks through. It is the moment of return—a discreet sign that even what has burned can still carry light. Cendres de lune is not a series about the moon; it is about what remains after an inner night, and the sacred beauty of coming back.
Jorge Canete, trained as an interior architect, merges architecture with visual and conceptual art, composing with materials such as moss, lichen, feather, stone, and glass. He employs minimalist, site-specific techniques that use emptiness, light, and simple participatory acts to invite viewers into transformative environments. His poetic installations evoke sacredness and invite introspection, offering spaces where visitors can let go, reflect, and experience destiny as an open, evolving path.
