About this artwork
Adiro Island belongs to the "Insulomania" project. Insulomania is a state of mind reflected in an obsession with islands. There are people for whom islands are, who knows why, irresistible. The mere fact of knowing they are on an island, in a small world surrounded by sea, fills them with happiness. Insulomania arose after reading a book by Rafael Argullol in which he recounts his experience of being stranded on the island of Cuba with a serious… back injury. In Insulomania, I use drugs as pictorial material on a collage of a human organ. The textures come from medications used to treat the ailment of the organ I have used. The concept is simple but powerful: Adiro Island is an island with a collage of a heart, and the medication used is Omeprazole, which is used to treat heart conditions. For a sick person, their dream and their paradise island bear the name of a medication. The paintings evoke paradise islands seen from the sky.
Jorge Fernández de Soto is a multidisciplinary artist trained at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Madrid and specializing in printmaking and design at the School of the National Mint and Stamp Factory, with extensive experience in film and television. His technique ranges from painting and photography to printmaking and collage, always investigating the best way to communicate each project, exploring identity, perception, and history. His works radiate introspection and seek to connect deeply with the viewer, inviting them to reflect on how we see ourselves and how others perceive us.
