José Fonte, artistic and real name. The name is a suggestion of the rural environment, highland village which in a splendorous way leans out of Mondego River.
Visual artist of ground roots who chooses as base of his work sometimes wood prepared by him, metal or linen. Capable of making his own paints, he mixes acrylics, glues, powder of stone, various pigments.
Very restrained and discreet palette,… the preferred colors are light yellow, black, grey, pinks, less usual lilac (mixing pink and purple) and even less a hidden light blue. As an invariable result, we see opaque paintings without artifices, simple, transparent, pure and silent truth, without the colorful appellative screams of famous personalities.

José Fonte is a Portuguese artist with international exposure. His abstract and expressionist paintings are made using large gestural brushstrokes on canvas and wood panel. Fonte integrates codes, words, and numbers into most of his paintings which are often assembled in a collage technique. His paintings are geometric, colorful and play with perspective and negative space.
