About this artwork
It all starts with dots…from dots lines appear, from lines stains appear. The stains, creased by brushstrokes, in thick layers of paint, or in a more runny way, tread spaces and snake our work, sometimes challenging areas of the work, almost completed.
The sign of the perfect/imperfect duality, as a game of values, starting from the point, turned into a stain, shines challenging the observer, asserting itself in the relationship of giving and receiving… complicity.
The harmony of color that always starts from the simplicity of the point, gesticulates and articulates with symbols, numbers, initial letters of a proper name, place of passions or purposelly attributed free words.
The words or poetry, almost always disguised, lead to the awakening of the observer's curiosity, revealing the message, challenging the aesthetic.

« I´m a contemporary Portuguese artist. I have received some prizes. I talk about the world to the world. I represent places, meeting points, I share spaces and good energies. »
José Fonte is a Portuguese artist with international exposure. His abstract and expressionist paintings are made using large gestural brushstrokes on canvas and wood panel. Fonte integrates codes, words, and numbers into most of his paintings which are often assembled in a collage technique. His paintings are geometric, colorful and play with perspective and negative space.
